What's the difference between wave energy and hydroelectric power

Hydro power uses dams (or at least a pipe where one end is as much higher as possible than the other) to use the pressure of water at the bottom to turn a turbine and generate electricity (or occasionally, do some other work such turn a mill). They are often located on the edge of a large lake in a mountainous area so that even when there hasn't been much rainfall recently there is still a good amount of water to use. Tidal/wave power uses the flow of the tides or the back and forth motion of individual swells to generate electricity. These tend to be located in the narrow entrance/exit of a bay or other land form with a strong tidal flow (for tidal power), or in a location exposed to strong swells or waves (for wave power).

Excuse me sir at the level of your explanation on wave energy I am not clear because in HEP at some point waves can be the source energy which will increase the flow of water through the penstock to the tubines meaning waves provide both energy use to turn the turbines in HEP and I still do not understand how it is different from HEP

Wave energy is the transport and capture of energy by ocean surface while hydroelectric power is a form of energy that harnesses the power of water in motion.

please sir from your explanation i wish to clarify my doubts  from your definition of fuctional energy it is the energy that reaches the end user after the convention process

so i wish to know  more about solar energy and biomass convention because sir you t ook and example on HEP and i understood how it is related to fuctional energy

(a)State two advantages of fusion over fission as a source of energy.
(b)Biomass, solar energy and hydroelectricity are aome sources from which funxtional energy could be obtained
i.What is meant by functional energy?

I think functional energy is an altenate name for renewable source of energy. Renewable source of energy is a form of energy that donot get exhausted when used over a long peroid of time and it can weasily be replanished

Fusion energy are source of energy which 2 heavy nuclei split to release heavy nuclei while Fission is a source of energy which involves when 2 smaller nuclei combined to form another nuclei with the release of energy too. Functional energy are energy in it use state or rather these are energy which are ready to be used e.g hydroelectricity.

In addition the waste products of fusion is more dangerous than the waste products of fission

Fusion is the boning molecules together while fusion is the breaking larger molecules into smaller ones

Fusion has to do with the release of energy which could be use to power other reactions Functional energy just as the name says refers to energy produced due to mechanical actions which could be used to run a plant or any energy needing area (provide energy) .

Fusion produces much more energy as compared to fission, about 3 or 4 times more There are few radioactive waste particles produced during a fusion reaction as compared to a fission reaction. Hence it is more environmentally friendly. b) Functional energy is energy obtained from the step by step conversion of a primary fuel such as in a power station or a refinery which is readily usable by the end user.
